Consumers, not people, impose danger to the planet

It is not the number of people on the planet that causes a challenge to the planet, but the number of consumers and their consumption. That calls for the importance of changing the fashion industry's culture and contribution to the emblematic of consumerism.

Watch this worldometer. It shows how much the world population has increased today and that every single day over 225,000 more humans are born than dies. While every new human being is a miracle, with such growth, we could reach 9.7 billion people by 2050 according to United Nations predictions. That's up from today of about 7.5 billion humans.

With such growth it seems obvious to ask: how will this amount of humans impact the planet? To that David Satterthwaite, senior fellow at the research organization International Institute for Environment and Development, have said that it is not the number of people on the planet that is the issue "but the number of consumers and the scale and nature of their consumption."

Being one of the most polluting industries in the world, the fashion industry must ease its ecological debt by

changing its consumer-driven growth models through slow downs of fashion cycles. It is important to change the fashion industry's culture and contribution to the emblematic of consumerism.

At Vakigrad we strive to make superior sustainable leather goods that rest on three pillars: timelessness for style; product quality for longevity; and cleaner materials. It's our humble contribution to minimize consumerism. We owe that to those who love leather goods, but especially to the many new world citizens born today, tomorrow and in the future.
