At Vakigrad we continue to develop and search for materials with less damaging impact on the environment and no hazard to humans for our sustainable leather goods. We call this principle ‘cleaner materials’ and we do it because materials that are cleaner for the environment and better for humans are more sustainable than those materials that are not.
Any production of materials creates pollution. But as one of the most resource-intensive industries in the world, the global fashion industry has done too little, too late, to develop cleaner materials that use less chemicals, water and energy.
Already today, Vakigrad’s leather is tanned with vegetable extracts from bark, leaves and root vegetables in replacement for hazardous chemicals that cause health risks for humans and damage to the environment. And our linen is made from a microfiber that holds the Eco Flower of the European Union certification.
But the road towards cleaner materials is a continuing one. And as Vakigrad grows as a company, we will keep on encouraging suppliers to develop cleaner materials using less chemicals, water and energy. We owe that to our customers who enjoy superior sustainable leather goods - and to the generations that will follow us.
